According to the 2016 census, Capalaba recorded a population of 17,333 people, 50.4% female and 49.6% male. The median age of the Capalaba population was 37 years. The median weekly household income was $1,484 and this suburb is home to 4,839 families. In 2016, the median monthly mortgage repayment was $1,850 and the median weekly rent was $350.

Transport

The Capalaba bus station connects the suburb to much of the Redlands and Eastern Brisbane. Services to Garden City bus station and the adjacent Upper Mount Gravatt busway station are operated by Mt Gravatt Bus Service, on behalf of TransLink. The suburb is also connected west to Carindale bus station and the Brisbane central business district, north to the Cleveland railway line, and east to Victoria Point bus station, through bus routes operated by Transdev Queensland on behalf of TransLink. Capalaba is also the terminus for major roads crossing Tingalpa Creek from the City of Brisbane, including Old Cleveland Road and Mount Gravatt-Capalaba Road/Mount Cotton Road, both connecting directly to the Gateway Motorway.

Education

The main secondary school is Capalaba State College, which has both junior and senior campuses. Coolnwynpin State School and St Luke’s Catholic Primary School also service this area.

Amenities

Capalaba Park and Capalaba Central shopping centres and nearby Capalaba Town Centre form one of the largest shopping zones in Redlands Coast, rivalled only by the twin retail precincts at Victoria Point in the south. Capalaba boasts family-friendly attractions that draw people from throughout Redlands Coast. One of these gems is Capalaba Regional Park, a sprawling 14ha of open areas where kids can run and play with walking and cycling circuits, picnic, and barbecue facilities. There is a great playground complete with flying fox, timber fort and embankment slide.
