Demographics

According to the 2016 Australian census, St Lucia has a population of 12,574 people. This consists of the makeup of 48% male and 52% female inhabitants. The median age here is 23 years. The median weekly household income is $1385. There are 4283 private dwellings within the suburb and 360 are vacant. These have a median weekly rent of $430. Most of the suburb consists of flats/apartments (59%) and 33% are separate houses. Residents in St Lucia mostly live on rent (55%), while 26% own their properties outright and 15% own them via a mortgage.

Transport

The suburb has a good option of buses that connect it to the region. There is also a Ferry that goes along the Brisbane River. There is no train station within the suburb but the community can opt for several nearby stations in Chelmer, Indooroopilly, Taringa and Graceville.

Education

Ironside State School is the only school within the suburb. However, there are other nearby options as well.

Amenities

The University of Queensland is the highlight of St Lucia, with residential colleges covering a good portion of the suburb. The university gives access to the public for using amenities such as their pools, tennis courts etc., however, certain facilities are provided at a fee. The St Lucia Gold Links is an 18-hole Golf course that has hosted several Queensland Open and PGA tournaments.
