Cannon Hill is known for its green spaces, variety of housing and proximity only 10km to the Brisbane CBD. It borders suburbs Tingalpa, Morningside, Carina and Murarrie. Cannon Hill covers an area of 4.6 square kilometers. The suburb was established in 1867 and is most likely named after Cannon Hill House, a residence formerly located on Wynnum Road. It was occupied by the Weedon family from its construction in 1867 until burning down in 1926. Thornhill Weedon named the house after two fallen trees which were said to have resembled a cannon.

As at the 2021 Census, Cannon Hill had a population of 6,701 people and the median age is 34. There are 1,387 families residing within the suburb and 2,331 private residential properties. The median weekly household income of residents is $1,871. Most of the neighborhood consists of separate houses (77%) while only 12% are flats or apartments.

Cannon Hill State School was founded in 1915 and is a precious heritage for the suburb. The school offers one of the best in the area to its residents with a rich history. Other schools in the area include St. Oliver Plunkett School and Cannon Hill Anglican College.
