It covers an area of 4.2 square kilometers and is surrounded by the suburbs of Acacia Ridge, Sunnybank, Robertson, Nathan, Salisbury and Rocklea. It's one of the oldest suburbs in the city, first surveyed in 1826 by Captain Patrick Logan, the commandant of the Moreton Bay penal settlement.
