Hamilton is an affluent riverside mixed-use suburb in the north-east of Brisbane. The suburb is about 7km north of the CBD, bounded by the Brisbane River to the south and this section of the river is known as Hamilton Reach. The western part of the suburb is hilly and offers views of the river, city, Mount Coot-tha, and Moreton Bay.

In the 2016 Census, there were 6,995 people in Hamilton (Qld). Of these, 49.1% were male and 50.9% were female. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people made up 1.0% of the population. The median age of people in Hamilton (QLD) was 37 years. 62.8% of people were born in Australia. The most common international countries of birth were New Zealand (3.9%), England (3.7%), India (1.6%), China (excluding SARs and Taiwan) (1.5%) and South Africa (0.8%).
