Manly is a charming suburb in Brisbane's east, about 19km from the CBD. Manly is a bustling and attractive neighbourhood that provides a laid-back coastal lifestyle with quick access to the city. Moreton Bay surrounds it and it is part of the Wynnum-Manly community. With a variety of activities available, such as swimming, fishing and boating, the Manly Esplanade is a well-liked destination for both locals and tourists. The Manly Boat Harbour, a 41.8ha marina located in the south-east of the suburb, is also popular.

Manly has a population of about 4,500 people, according to the most recent Census. The median age of residents is 45, which is slightly older than Australia’s median age of 38. This suggests that there are more seniors in Manly, which could be attributed to the beach lifestyle and retirement options.

Brisbane City Council operates frequent bus routes to and from Manly. The main bus stop in Manly is on Cambridge Parade, near the Manly Train Station. This station runs on the Cleveland line. A network of bike paths connects Manly to the surrounding suburbs and the Brisbane CBD. A ferry to North Stradbroke Island and Moreton Island can also be taken from Manly Harbour Village’s Manly Harbour Marina.

Manly education

There are several primary schools located in Manly:

Manly State School – a government primary school
St John Vianney’s Primary School – a Catholic primary school
Darling Point Special School – a primary and secondary providing only special education

There is no secondary school in Manly. The nearest government secondary school is Wynnum State High School on the boundary with neighbouring Wynnum to the north-west.

With a focus on fresh seafood and outdoor dining, the Manly Village Precinct has a wide selection of stores, cafés and restaurants. Residents and tourists alike enjoy Sundays at the Manly Farmers Market, which is held once a week.
