Petrie Terrace Suburb Overview

Petrie Terrace is an inner suburb in the city of Brisbane. The suburb is 2.1 kilometres by road west of the Brisbane General Post Office. Hale Street and Countess Street are the streets that encircle the precinct to the west and east, respectively. Its northern boundary is Musgrave Road, and its southern boundary is Milton Road and Upper Roma Street. The suburb's name derives from the same-named road, which honors the pioneering Petrie family under the leadership of Andrew Petrie.

In the 2016 Census, there were 1,124 people in Petrie Terrace. Of these, 52.9% were male and 47.1% were female. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people made up 0.4% of the population. The median age of people in Petrie Terrace was 30 years. In Petrie Terrace, 65.4% of people were born in Australia. The most common countries of birth were New Zealand (2.6%), Colombia (2.0%), Brazil (1.5%), and the United States of America (1.4%). In Petrie Terrace, 78.3% of people only spoke English at home. Other languages spoken at home included Spanish 3.4%, Mandarin 1.5%, Portuguese 1.3%, Italian 0.8%, and Cantonese 0.6%.

Albert Park Flexible Learning Centre is a Catholic secondary (11–12) school at 1 Hale Street. The nearest government primary school is Petrie Terrace State School, which, despite its name, is within the neighbouring suburb of Paddington to the west. The nearest government secondary school is Kelvin Grove State College in neighbouring Kelvin Grove to the north.
